Upper_Atmosphere_Model-P (v.1.0)Upper Atmosphere Model-PModel DescriptionThe UAM-P describes the global distribution of the parameters of the multi-component near-Earth plasma, and its time variations, in the height range from 80 km over the Earth surface to a geocentric distance 15 Earth radii. The model consists of three main blocks : thermospheric, ionospheric-protonospheric, and the block of electric fields. The global distribution of the neutral gas temperature and N2, O2, and O concentrations are obtained either from the numerical solution of the appropriate continuity, momentum and energy equations or using an empirical model of the neutral temperature and composition (e.g., MSIS-83). Ionospheric-protonospheric block consists of two modules. The first module calculates the parameters of the D, E and F1 ionospheric regions (height range 80 - 175 km). The molecular ions O2+ and NO+ dominate in these regions. The second module calculates the parameters of the atomic ions O+ and H+ and electrons in the magnetic dipole coordinate system. ElectricJield computation block solves the equation for the potential of the electric field numerically. The magnetospheric sources of the electric field are field-aligned currents in regions 1 and 2.
