Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG
Location: Earth
Event Time: 2024-09-04T09:40Z ( DSCOVR: PLASMAG )
All Detecting Spacecrafts:
DSCOVR: PLASMAG
ACE: SWEPAM
ACE: MAG
Activity ID: 2024-09-04T09:40:00-IPS-001 (version 3)
Quality of ICME Signature: -1 (unspecified)
Note: Characterized by an increase in B_total from 10.8 nT to 23.5 nT, reaching a maximum of 25nT. Accompanied by an increase in solar wind speed from 330 km/s to 410 km/s, an increase in density, and an increase in temperature. The cause of this shock may be the CME first seen in SOHO LASCO C2 at 2024-09-01T03:24Z. May be followed by/influenced by a weak corotating interaction region/high speed stream signature; magnetic field strength signature appears to dampen faster at L1 than that of STEREO Ahead, possibly indicating the signature is associated with a CME seen to the west relative to the Earth-Sun line. The field is generally dominated by the y-component at L1 and more so by the x-component and z-component at STEREO Ahead.
