Interplanetary Shock (or CME Arrival)
Catalog: M2M_CATALOG Location: Earth Event Time: 2025-09-21T15:54Z ( ACE: MAG ) Quality of ICME Signature: -1 (unspecified) Note: Characterized by an amplification of magnetic field components from 1nT at 2025-09-21T15:54Z to 19nT at 2025-09-22T11:09Z. A subsequent increase in speed is observed from ~280 km/s at 2025-09-21T19:44Z to ~420 at 2025-09-22T11:10Z. Additionally, a gradual increase in density is observed starting around 2025-09-21T07:00Z, reaching ~20 p/cc at 2025-09-22T00:05Z. An increase in temperature is observed later around 2025-09-22T09:45Z, which coincides with the arrival of the 2025-09-22 high speed stream. The source of this interplanetary shock is likely a corotating interaction region preceding the coronal hole high speed stream starting on 2025-09-22. The coronal hole high speed stream is associated with a northern coronal hole that reached the central meridian on 2025-09-18. This event is still developing and analysis is ongoing.
